I switched… finally.

Today marks a monumental day for me.

I no longer use Microsoft Outlook for my email/contact/calendar/tasks; I’m now fully on the Thunderbird bandwagon. This was a very difficult decision for me to make, and here are my reasons for doing so:

  1. I don’t use my PDA anymore; I have an HP iPaq which syncs with Outlook. Since I couldn’t tell you the last time I used it, this was no longer a requirement.
  2. Outlook’s horrible IMAP implementation. To put it mildly, Outlook’s IMAP sucks. There’s nothing else I can really say.. it just plain sucks.
  3. I had previously used Thunderbird on my PowerBook and I no longer enjoyed switching back and forth between email programs.
  4. Thunderbird rocks. The 1.4.1 beta is pretty solid. FireFox and Sunbird are both killer apps, and I really think they’ll be mainstream eventually.

I’ll still have to use Outlook for my career (I run an Exchange server), so I’ll still get my “fill” of Outlook. Thankfully, I have choices for my personal accounts!
